If there is ever a sequel to the movie “White Men Can’t Jump,” Ben Robertson would be the perfect player to play the role of Billy Hoyle (Woody Harrelson). As you remember, Billy Hoyle was a white basketball hustler who banks on players underestimating his skills on the court. He was slick enough to pull the wool over the eye of character Sidney Deane (Wesley Snipes). Well, you know the rest of the story!

When walking in to open gym, the first thing we noticed about Robertson was the additional strength he has gained especially in his arms and shoulders. It’s hard to believe Robertson suffered from a broken leg three years ago. That being said, Robertson has ridiculous hops off the bounce. Back in March, Robertson attended the prestigious NC Top 80 camp and we wrote, “Ben is your typical blue-collar workhorse. He does so many things well and will do what is told and expected. He has a great attitude that is matched by a second to none work ethic. The lefty has a quick first step and tremendous bounce off the dribble. He can score from all levels on the court, but give him room, he will provide a nice “in your face” highlight dunk. While he has many strong attributes, we strongly feel it his ability to play within the team structure.”

At open gym, Robertson played at a mature pace like the seasoned senior he is. He has such a fluid and smooth game. He’s excellent coming off screens and moving well without the ball. He has terrific footwork prior and the southpaw has a quick release. His mechanics and shooting fundamentals are simply textbook. In addition, Robertson has the ability to put the ball on the floor and is so crafty around the rim. Like we stated in the NC Top 80 report, don’t be surprised to see Robertson punish the rim with an eye catching dunk.

Currently, Robertson is focused on three schools. He has an official visit scheduled for Bucknell September 12th and will be visiting Miami of Ohio and Campbell University shortly there after. Robertson is also a “high flyer” in the classroom as he sports an impressive 4.2 GPA. He’s a model citizen on and off the court. His maturity is advance beyond his years and whoever is able to secure his services for the next four years will get an absolute jewel.
