At the Phenom Challenge, we had an opportunity to learn some new names, especially with 1of1 Elite 15u. They were able to make a lot of noise in South Carolina, battling through a tough schedule and earning a championship. This was a very interesting team to watch as we bring you a few new names that will be ones to watch here in North Carolina. We dive into some of the players that impressed.

2028 6’4 Tjay Brunson

Brunson was a new name that grabbed our attention and that we talked about earlier this week. In a recent article, we had this to say that sums up his game well. “Brunson was a new name personally for me, but after watching him throughout the event, he will be a name to watch more and see how he develops. The 6’5 young prospect impressed with his comfort level from a variety of levels, and you have to love his motor on the court. He is coming off a strong freshman season at Cleveland HS, averaging nearly 7ppg and 7rpg, and he gave us an even better preview of what’s to come down the road. Brunson surprised us with his multi-level scoring ability, scoring inside and running the floor, but also stretching the floor with his three-point shooting. You add that to his energy on the glass, his athleticism both offensively and defensively, and his willingness to compete all over the floor.”

2028 6’8 Jordan Mabor Marier

The name should sound familiar, as we have seen a few Mabor’s come through the landscape of North Carolina basketball at Gaston Christian. Now, we have another one coming up and should be one to watch. The 6’8 long, active forward is one that shows strong flashes of his impact both offensively and defensively. He scores well around the basket with his wiry frame and runs the floor exceptionally well at his age. Mabor understands how to finish around the rim and has a developing skillset overall. Defensively, he does a great job in just being active and disruptive, altering shots and making it tough on opponents inside.

2028 Jaylen Bowden

Another familiar last name, Jaylen is the younger brother of JD Bowden at Ambassador Christian, and we had a great opportunity to learn about his game this past weekend. He was able to flourish as a playmaking guard who excels in scoring off the bounce. Bowden is crafty and effective, attacking the defense, showing good quickness and handles, and making good reads overall on the court. He can score for himself or facilitate as well, making Bowden a very intriguing young prospect.
