Over the years, Chapmanville High School (WV) has become somewhat of a staple with Phenom Hoops. In addition to previously holding an event in their area, we’ve seen several of their kids at camps, travel ball events, and high school showcases. They’ve had guys like Obinna Anochili-Killen, Andrew Shull, David Tubek, Philip Mullins, and various others throughout the years. Just a few weeks ago, Coach Napier brought his current group to our Phenom Team Camp at Rise Indoor Sports. As expected, they proved to be a highly competitive bunch with an intriguing mix of talent—including Keaton Terry and Dakota Dalton. Let’s take a closer look at each…
It doesn’t take long to see everything Terry does to assert his presence with this group. At 6-foot-6, he’s versatile enough to operate in a variety of different roles and impact all facets of the game. Terry utilizes his strength to physically overwhelm opponents on the glass, but also has the necessary motor to outwork anyone on the floor. He handles the ball well for his size and shows the ability to knock down perimeter jumpers, but is arguably at his best when getting downhill. Terry finishes well around the basket and sees the floor fairly well as a passer. Given his size and age, there’s already a lot to like.
Meanwhile, Dalton is a steady, balanced floor general who knows how to dictate the action with pace and poise. He handles the ball with care, sets up others at a consistent rate, and picks his spots as a scorer. Dalton is a reliable shooter from beyond the arc, but also knows how to touch the paint, play off two feet, and finish or kick out to open shooters. He utilizes his sturdy frame to play through contact on both ends of the floor. Like his teammate above, Dalton is already a useful two-way piece, so it’ll be interesting to see how his game develops going forward.
