There were very few opportunities to go out and watch high school basketball this past season, so a lot of it was viewed online. I remember one night tuning in to catch some of the action one night, getting a chance to watch Riverside-Durham vs. Green Hope. There were a few intriguing prospects on the court that night but then 2022 Keyon Webb was one I didn’t expect and a new name really appeared.

That was back in January, where you can find my game report here: Click Here

Webb continued to play at a high level all throughout the season, ultimately earning another article from us that you can read: Making a mark in NC: 2022 Keyon Webb (Riverside-Durham HS)

From then, Webb has now reclassed to the loaded 2023 class, now will be attending NC GBB, and has been one of the key leaders for Rasheed Wallace Select this summer, earning praise for his play so far and catching a ton of eyes. Playing for Rasheed Wallace has been a huge help in his development, while also allowing him to simply enjoy his time on the court.

“I feel like after COVID, everything has been so serious with everybody trying to get recruited but honestly, with this program, I’ve found myself having the most fun I’ve ever had playing basketball,” he told Phenom Hoops. “At the same time, we get NBA knowledge of the game with both Coach Pat Cole and Rasheed; the love for us, the game, and the way they teach it is just something I’ve never had up to this point.”

Webb is coming off a spectacular high school season in which he averaged nearly 15 points, three assists, four rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He has continued that consistent play throughout and is now coming off a special weekend, earning 2nd-Team recognition at the Juneteenth Invitational. When watching him though, you can see that he has only continued to work hard on developing his game and his confidence.

“The teaching and training I’ve received from the past year or so now hard helped me build more confidence in myself while also slowing the game down a little bit more for me,” he replied. “I have just started doing more things like pool workouts and regularly working more on my body (both injury prevention and strengthening).”

As his play has elevated, so has his recruitment.  It seems like only a matter of time when college coaches will offer but his interest levels have certainly risen, while also getting a chance to check out a few programs as well.

When speaking to Webb, he mentioned that he has had conversations with schools like Appalachian State, UNCG, Loyola-Maryland, and The Citadel.  He also was able to take an unofficial visit to UNCG, one that he enjoyed.

“The coaches and players really welcomed us and I felt that the overall atmosphere of the team and campus was family-like.  I also liked how the basketball team is like the heart and soul of the college.”

Webb also mentioned that he is looking to reschedule a visit with The Citadel as well.
