Now that we’ve reached the point in the high school season when things begin to shift. Despite all the preseason competition, holiday showcases, and subplots throughout, this time is arguably as exciting as any period in the year. Each game has playoff implications. All kinks should be figured out, and teams should be hitting their stride. However, this is also the stretch when folks start paying attention to blossoming prospects. Although the Western Guilford program has been overlooked for quite a while, Seth Harris is changing the culture. Let’s take a closer look…

It’s difficult to overstate how much Harris has bolstered this program since his arrival. In his two seasons with the team, the Hornets finished with their best records since 2016-17. Not only does this clearly benefit the squad, but it also provides Harris with an opportunity to really showcase the full scope of his game. Considering his uptick in production from last year to this year, and there should be even more optimism about his long-term potential. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.7 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.5 SPG, and 1.6 BPG with 49/34/78 splits. Those were very strong numbers for a freshly added piece, but it was truly just the beginning. This year, Harris is averaging 23.6 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, and 1.4 BPG with 52/39/78 splits. His improvement and development as a leader have been easy to see.

The 6-foot-4 wing is equipped with the size, skill, and athleticism to impact the game in a multitude of ways. Harris is more than comfortable operating as a main creator, setting up others, and applying scoring pressure from all levels. The fact that his volume and efficiency both increased is a highly encouraging sign. Harris has rounded out his game in a way that leaves him with no real weaknesses on either end of the floor. He’s a useful cutter and spot-up threat, but typically works with the ball in his hands. Harris utilizes his length and motor to be a disruptive defender and force turnovers at a solid rate. He’s also a strong rebounder for his size/position. Based on his current trajectory, coaches should start getting involved with Harris before the upcoming travel ball season.
