Virginia Top 80 Team 1 Evaluations

Coach Scott Riggins

#44 Myron Prescott

“Myron is a game changer. He bring energy and a high basketball IQ to the court. He gets to the rim with ease and whenever he wants to and has a nice outside touch, making him very difficult to slow down. With his ability to knock down shots at multiple levels and with his release, Prescott showed that he can be a consistent shooter. He also showed that he could get to the rim and finish through contact, as well as showcasing solid footwork and vision. He needs to continue to improve his defensive position for rebounds.”

#90 EJ Williams

“EJ played well in spurts throughout the event at the VA Top 80. He utilizes his body and frame very well around the basket on offense and showcased a nice touch around the rim. He really can bully himself around in the paint. He has a very nice back to the basket game as well. On defense, he needs to continue to work on consistently utilizing his body for position and rebounds but the potential is there. Finally, EJ is the best outlet passer that we saw on the court throughout the camp and something that is highly underrated.”

#1 James Prescott

“You would never know that James was the youngest player at the camp because he plays at a much high-level and showcases a talent that looks to be a much high level. He shoots the three ball with ease and really showed that he could be a deadly threat. But he was also not scared to attack the rim, penetrate the paint, and finish at the rim, something he was solid all day at. He has to continue to work on his defense, both on and off the ball, but that will come with time. Overall, Prescott really showed that he could play with the big-boys at such a young age.”

#43 Timothy Montgomery

“Tim is a hard working young man on both ends of the court, as his attitude, team play, and effort really shine at the Virginia Top 80. He listens very well to his coach and competes, two things that coaches at the next level would simply love to have. His mid-range game is good, showcasing a really good release on his shot. He still needs to become more vocal on defense but Montgomery has all the tools to be a really good player.”

#10 Dasmon Wright

“Dasmon is a great competitor on the court and really gave maximum effort at all times. He runs the point very well for being 5’5 and understands his role on the court and what is needed by him at the time. He showed that he wasn’t afraid to penetrate the lane and finish at the rim, something he did really well. Continuing to work on his on and off the ball defense will be key. But had great footwork, quickness, and vision on the court and had a solid day.”

#22 Markell Riggins

“Markell plays with a ton of energy on the court and it is contagious. Whether it was on offense or defense, the effort was there, along with the attitude and team play. He showed that he could do multiple things on the offensive side of the ball with solid range on his shot, catch and shoot ability, and shooting off the dribble. He is a streaky three-point shooter as well but his mid-range game is his bread and butter. He plays great on ball defense but needs to be vocal on the court more.”

#66 Mitchell Burns

“Mitchell played very well with a solid basketball IQ and attitude. He was solid in several areas such as his ability to knock down shots on all three levels, his quickness and vision, rebounding his position, and his defense off the ball. He really excelled and did a great job on the offensive and defensive rebounds. Just needs to continue to work hard and develop his overall game.”

#88 Mark Williams

“Mark was one of the best prospects and has a load of potential for such a young age. He can handle the ball, which is rare for his size around 6’9 or 6’10 and he can shoot the three-ball. He finishes well at the rim and was all over the boards. Mark is a really good shot blocker with his size and moves well defensively also. He just needs to continue to work on his overall game and developing, which will for sure come as he get older and continue to get stronger.”

#67 Jordan Gibson

“Jordan was a constant three-point threat, no matter where he was on the court. He was a threat to score the basketball at any time. He shoots the ball extremely well off the catch and/or off the dribble. He also showed that he can drive the ball and finish. He is active on defense and rebounds well. Continuing to work on the fine details of his craft and becoming more vocal could really help him down the road.”
