Terry Sanford Beats Westover
Two of the top players in the state go head-to-head, D’Marco Dunn and Davis Molnar didn’t disappoint last night. Even though it was only the first game of the season, you can tell that these two teams will continue to get better and will be really good at the end of the season.
This contest was a game of runs. Terry Sanford threw the opening punch of the game starting the game on a 16-9 run. The second quarter belong to D’Marco Dunn and Westover. Westover won the second quarter by nine points and went into the half with a 31-29 lead. D’Marco led that bigtime second quarter with 11 points of his own. In the second half Davis Molnar started to do what he does best, he controlled the game. He made big time plays in big time moments of the game.
Davis Molnar 6’6 2022 Terry Sanford
Davis was in complete control of the game last night. He completely runs the show for Terry Sanford. The 6’6 guard is the coach on the floor. He has a high basketball IQ and can absolutely pick a part the defense with his vision and passing abilities. He isn’t the quickest guy on the court but does an exceptional job using angles and his body to get past defenders. He is one of the best rebounding guards we have seen. He does a tremendous job anticipating where the ball is going to come off the rim. Molnar finished the game with a triple-double. He had 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists and don’t be surprised if he averaged close to a triple-double all season.
Carlos Craig 6’3 2023 Terry Sanford
Carlos provided a great spark off the bench. He wasn’t scared of the moment. He did a great job attacking the rim in both the half court and in transition. He also showed that he is capable of knocking down perimeter shots. The long, athletic guard also impacted the game on the defensive side of the ball. Carlos did a great job of slowing down D’Marco Dunn in the second half. He finished the game with 13 points.
Anthony Geddie 2021 Terry Sanford
Anthony did a good job finding spots in the zone and knocking down shots. He did a great job playing off Molnar’s penetration and finding open spots to get his shots off. He hit two 3’s in the first quarter which helped spark the opening run for Terry Sanford. He finished the game with 10 points.
D’Marco Dunn 6’4 2021 Westover UNC Signee
D’Marco Dunn can flat out shoot the cover off the ball. He shoots the ball at a high level. He gets great elevation and has a high release point. He isn’t just a shooter. He made some really nice plays off the bounce. He was able to get to his spots and stop on a dime for pull-ups. Dunn finished with a game high 22 points. 18 of his 22 points came in the first half.
Mickey Campbell Westover
He really impacted the game with his length and athleticism. He played at the top of the 1-3-1 zone and got multiple deflections and steals. He really excels in transition. Also, did a really good job attacking the boards on both sides of the ball. Finished the game with 8 points.
Trey Williams Westover
Shooter – He knocked in four triples last night. Finished the game with 12 points.
