After a lot of stressors throughout the last twelve to fourteen months, the grassroots basketball landscape has finally returned to normalcy. The shoe-circuits and high school LIVE periods were restored for the betterment of these young prospects who are simply fighting for an equal opportunity to advance to the collegiate ranks. Although this presents Division I programs with the chance to start attending events, most non-D1s have already been allowed to travel over the last year or so. So, with the July LIVE periods quickly approaching, we figured it would be beneficial to take a closer look at the expected talent on display. This article will look at the Charlotte Royals…

To put it plainly, it would be nonsensical for college coaches to miss out on Xavier McKelvy—who has rapidly trended upward as a highly coveted prospect over the recent months. He’s an absolutely dominant force for this Royals squad, as he’s able to effortlessly dictate the offensive action while still overwhelming opponents defensively and making his presence felt as a rebounder. While McKelvy might receive a lot of attention for his explosive nature, his well-rounded skillset and leadership by example are equally as appealing. He’s nearly unstoppable in the open floor, especially with the ball in his hands, and welcomes opponents to meet him at the rim. After already collecting multiple Division I offers, McKelvy should have plenty of onlooking suitors.

That being said, college coaches should also give hard looks to guys like Lance Gill and Marcus Willis. Gill is younger than the rest of this roster, but it would be impossible to tell just by watching his poised, mature game. He’s a smart, skilled, fluid scorer from all levels with the necessary length and athleticism to outwork opponents in every possible facet. Gill can create for himself or reliably find opportunities without the ball in his hands. Coaches would be wise to get involved prior to his senior season. On the other hand, Willis is the primary floor general for this group. Although slightly undersized, he has no issue probing the defense, setting up others, and asserting himself as a scoring option as needed. He’s a scrappy defender at the point of attack and displays IQ on both ends of the floor. Each of these prospects should be sought out over the coming weeks.
