It probably goes without saying, but this high school season has been full of excitement. Even after watching several noteworthy prospects exiting the state to transfer elsewhere, there have been a ton of standout individuals, surprising teams, and subplots to monitor. Among these things to follow has been the success of Mooresville. The Blue Devils currently sit at 10-2 behind their incredibly balanced group of veteran pieces (featuring four players averaging double-digit scoring). Although each guy plays an incredibly vital role to the team’s success, one could argue that Jordan Walton has been as important as anyone on the roster. Let’s take a closer look…

In a time when so many players obsess over how much they can score, Walton is a breath of fresh air. He’s a smart, heady floor general who sets the tone with his unselfishness and playmaking ability. Walton utilizes his crafty handle and quick first step to reliably break down opponents, touch the paint, and finish or set up others. He sees the floor really well when attacking to consistently make the right decision with the ball in his hands. Walton is a capable scorer who applies pressure as needed, but is arguably at his best when looking to create for others.

Beyond his offensive capabilities and leadership, Walton stands out as a reliable defender at the point of attack. He provides a nice blend of toughness, physicality, and anticipation to force turnovers. Walton isn’t afraid to mix it up as a rebounder or outwork opponents to make hustle plays. He simply knows how to impact the game in a low-maintenance manner. Per Coach Moore, he’s posting nightly averages of 8 PPG, 7 APG, and 4 SPG. Given everything he’s shown throughout his senior season, Walton should be a prospect for various college programs to monitor.
