Standing at 6’10”, Deshawn Thomas wields a 7’5” wing span. He is a paint protector, he knows he is a paint protector, and each time a player comes into the lane or a rebound comes off the rim, Thomas is going to get it.

Thomas is newer to the game, however he already holds a state championship. This past year, at AC Flora High School, the Columbia, South Carolina native manned the middle for the 3A state championship winning team. It was his 9 rebounds and 3 blocks per game that gave AC Flora a different dynamic, an edge.

Prior to the season Thomas participated in the South Carolina Top 80. There he intrigued with his great timing, we wrote, Perhaps the most intriguing player in the camp. Thomas wields a 7’5” wing span, with a frame that could still be growing, and good athleticism. While his offense was pretty much put backs and short corner lobs, his defense and rebounding ability excelled. Thomas’ camp coach Jerome Stewart stated, “While Deshawn needs to continue to refine his offensive game, defensively and rebounding fundamentals he is already at a high level.” Thomas does a great job protecting the paint, and as he continues to gain strength and confidence his stock could soar. Local D1s need to take note ASAP, before regional schools come into play.”

Well true to form, Thomas’ stock is right on the brink of soaring. Through his play this year, hehas picked up offers from South Carolina State and James Madison. He has had the likes of Kansas State, East Carolina, Stephen F Austin, Wake Forest, and others come through his gym to watch him work out.

Not only is Thomas very long, but he is active. He wants to rebound and block shots. Thomas is a good vertical athlete and runs the court well. While he is still learning pace on the block and strengthening his core on the offensive end, he has good hands and solid touch from the free throw line. The upside and potential is clear to anyone who watches.

College Coaches who aren’t already recruiting Thomas, make sure you join the coach already in the know on the baseline at Spring Hoops Fest LIVE April 16-17 in Greensboro.
