The POB’s Best of the Best Series continues by highlighting the Top Guards from the 2026 class that stood out at the NC Top 80. This group of talented prospects showed they can flat-out put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. From creative shot-makers who can score off the bounce, to confident shooters who space the floor and finish through contact, these guards consistently proved their ability to take over games and impacted the game in a variety of ways. Each brought a unique blend of skill, competitiveness, and offensive firepower, making this group one of the most exciting to watch in North Carolina. Here’s a closer look at the top guards who made their mark.

2026 Jordan Tate (West Forsyth)

Tate showcased why he’s an unsigned senior to keep an eye on. The strong, physical guard excelled attacking downhill, using his strength and aggressiveness to finish through contact, while also displaying improved confidence as a perimeter shooter. Tate’s blend of toughness, scoring ability, and versatility makes him a valuable backcourt prospect ready to make an impact at the next level. Had a very good overall showing at the camp, taking home one of the top performer awards.

2026 Kingston Carlsen (Fayetteville Academy)

Carlsen impressed with his assertiveness and attacking mindset throughout the event. He consistently pushed the pace, thrived in transition, and finished strong around the basket. Carlsen’s ability to get downhill and apply pressure on defenses stood out, showcasing his confidence, athleticism, and effectiveness as a downhill scorer.

2026 Dacen Petty (Christ School)

Petty is a prospect who should draw more attention this season, and really has a chance to shine in a big way. Possessing a strong blend of size and skill, Petty continues to showcase his ability to stretch the floor with consistent outside shooting. His poise, versatility, and shooting touch make him a valuable perimeter threat with upside as he continues to develop his all-around game. Petty plays with control and a great overall pace to his game.

2026 Chaise Smith (Washington)

Smith is an explosive and dynamic guard who constantly keeps defenders on their heels. With his elite change of pace, quickness, and fluid athleticism, he attacks the rim with confidence and finishes above or through contact. Smith also showed the ability to step out and knock down shots, making him a versatile offensive threat capable of taking over games with his creativity and energy.

2026 Griff Simpson (Gaston Day)

Simpson showcased an impressive display of shotmaking and control. He consistently knocked down tough jumpers, especially with his smooth jump-stop, and showed the ability to create space effortlessly. Simpson operates with poise and precision, using great footwork and balance to get to his spots and make plays in traffic, proving to be a confident and polished scoring threat.

2026 Marty Giant (GDS)

Giant is a well-rounded guard who continues to fly under the radar but deserves college attention. He leads by example, plays with a high IQ, and impacts the game in multiple ways on both ends of the floor. Giant can create for himself or others, operate effectively off the ball, and consistently makes winning plays. A true hidden gem in North Carolina, he embodies the kind of versatility and reliability coaches value at the next level.
