High School Coach Evaluation: Caleb is going to be one of the better guards in our area this AAU season as well as the upcoming regular season. Caleb has a knack for the ball, such a great rebounder from the point guard position averaging close to seven rebounds a game this past season. Caleb’s scoring output increased; not only from 3-point range but also from mid-range and attacking the basket. Caleb’s attention to detail elevates in late moments of the game, never afraid to take the big shot. He responds to adversity and coaching very well for a high school athlete. As Caleb continues to build upon his IQ from the point guard role, he will be that much better of a talent. Very coachable and has a great respect for the game. – Coach Anthony Collins, Head Coach Grassfield High School. Coach Collins has over 30 years of college coaching experience including a 3-year stint as head coach at Virginia State.
Coach Frank says: Caleb is a highly skilled, high energy and scrappy guard with explosive quickness, a crafty handle and “in the gym” range on the jumper. He is a high scoring guard who can hit the jumper at a high rate but can also blow by a defender and get to the rim. He makes great use of the hesitation dribble move and has an impressive array of ball handling moves but understands how and when to use his dribble. Caleb has disciplined shot mechanics and is among the better shooters in the area. He is equally efficient shooting the three pointer and hitting the jumper off the dribble. He is obviously a well-coached player given his advanced skill and mature and confident court presence. He is an excellent passer and knows where everyone is on the floor, makes great decisions. Caleb has solid defensive technique, quick feet and quick, busy hands and is a harassing on ball defender. He is extremely quick closing on the ball and picks off a lot of passes turning them into fast break baskets as he accelerates so quickly with the dribble and gets from end to end quickly. He has an impressive combination of a long wingspan and wiry frame, advanced skill and elite athleticism and puts all of those attributes to good use as a guy who fills the stat sheets in multiple categories. Has a nose for the ball and rebounds both ends. Caleb is a player college coaches should have on their watch list and is one of the top 2019’s in the Hampton Roads area.
