Some people are just born to play the game of basketball. They have the frame, the build, the mindset, and the genetic make-up so that it is impossible for them to not be great. Josiah James was just born to play the game of basketball.
James’ father, Kurt, was first team All-State in Michigan in 1977 and went on to play at Michigan State with Magic Johnson. His mother is a veteran college referee who has earned the honor of being the head of officials. His brother KJ is a starting forward at Armstrong St in Savannah. So, from birth, Josiah had no choice but be good at basketball.
This summer Josiah (a 6’6” class of 2019) started at point guard for TMP Elite’s 17u team. This is the same program who produced the likes of Top 100 prospects Khris Middleton, Bruce Ellington, RJ Slawson, and many others. James is clearly the next big thing in line for this program. 247Sports already has James ranked as the #51 prospect in the 2019 class.
It is easy to see why 247Sports is so high on him. He is very long and sees the floor so very well. He is a winner at every level and just creates opportunities for himself and others on both ends of the floor. James first came through our doors as an 8th grader, after the event we wrote, “He has a great feel for the game with high IQ and handle and makes plays beyond his years. Mark this name in your SIM card.”
Still growing, and still winning, James is entering his sophomore year of high school. Already the starting point guard for a state championship winning team, already a Top 100 prospect, and already carrying multiple high major offers. However, James is ready to make a statement this season. He is about to become a household name in recruiting circles.
James has offers from Tennessee, Texas A&M, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and others. That list will continue to grow.
