Kennard “KJ” Wyche 5’5 110 2023 Varina High School, Richmond VA

KJ is a court savvy floor general, smart and crafty, and highly efficient. He’s not going to overwhelm you physically and he’s not overly explosive but what he is is ball quick, fundamentally sound, scrappy, and one of the best facilitators and passers in the 2023 class.

He’s a bulldog! KJ truly makes teammates better as he has great vision and passing skills and knows how to get the ball to teammates where they can be effective. He can hit the three-pointer at a good rate, skillfully executes the floater, and high finishes off the glass against length. He can also break his man down in isolations and get into the lane where he operates like a tactician utilizing his crafty ball-handling skills, natural instincts as a playmaker, and superb vision. He does a great job seeing the floor, reading and attacking defenses, and is a solid decision-maker. Very efficient overall offensively. KJ controls the tempo and always shows great poise. He is an exciting prospect as he demonstrates advanced skills and a natural feel for the game. He is the consummate facilitator and can impact games without the need to score. He knows how to exploit matchups and he can make all the passes.

On the defensive end, he uses his quick hands and anticipation skills when goIng for strips and deflections and is a sticky on-ball defender. His mature game management skills and basketball savvy can be traced to his father, former Armstrong High School star Kennard Wyche. Kennard Sr. is considered by many to be among the top basketball talents to come out of the 804 and led Armstrong HS to the 1997 region semifinals while earning All-Metro honors. I expect “KJ” will make his own impact on the 804 as his high school career progresses.
