Kashawn Cordes 6’4 170 2022 Hermitage High School (VA) / Team Richmond
Kashawn is a long, fleet-footed two-way guard whose athleticism is off the charts! He is a game-changing presence on both ends of the floor. One of the better perimeter stoppers in Virginia’s 2022 class he uses great length, instincts, and quickness to harass ballhandlers all over the court and he shows excellent anticipation and quickness for steals in passing lanes. A standout defender he is also a slippery and elusive basket attacking playmaker who scores from all levels and plays above the rim. Kashawn hits the catch and shoot jumper at a good rate with excellent range. Probably most dangerous off the bounce where his rangy strides and quickness allow him to eat up real estate in a hurry. Kashawn has a crafty handle and changes speed effortlessly. He can play slow to fast and when he puts it in gear he will blow by you in the blink of an eye. His strides so long and graceful, his movements slippery and smooth but his attack on the rim is explosive and punishing. Kashawn has the ability to explode off a dribble move and either brake abruptly into a smooth left-handed pull-up jumper or continue to attack showing great body control and shiftiness. His length and high release allow him to shoot over most other guards. Excellent on spot-ups and very consistent and efficient shooting off dribble pull-ups.
Kashawn’s vision is uncanny and he seems to know where everyone is at all times. He shows some shake and bake in addition to his authoritative strides as he attacks space. He has a feathery touch and scores with runners or uses the glass nicely employing his length allows him to finish at a high rate from all angles. He absorbs contact nicely able to contort his lengthy frame and finish around contact or hang in the air and fight off contact to get his shot off. I saw him off the ball quite a bit recently show off his shot-making prowess and was thoroughly impressed with his explosiveness off the dribble and his great balance. I saw him use a quick rip and burst from beyond the arc and get to the rim on one dribble finishing with a one-hand slam.
Not only was he well above the rim but his burst was eye-popping quick! A highlight video I saw showed Kashawn rebound near the foul line on the defensive end and use three dribbles for a layup at the other end…and he got there easily! Kashawn is under the radar and once more coaches see him you’ll see his name mentioned quite often among top prospects in Virginia’s 2022 class! He certainly has all the tools to produce at the next level.
