Day 2 of the Phenom New Year’s Bash got underway, as fans were able to enjoy a little basketball before enjoying the New Year’s holiday. Second game on the schedule, we had a very intriguing matchup between Gaston Christian who was coming off an impressive Day 1 victory, taking on Cardinal Newman from South Carolina.
Both teams looked to adjust to one another early on, as Cardinal Newman was able to tie it up at nine at the buzzer by a runner from Jordan Frazer. Gaston Christian started to get going a little bit more offensively, continuing to go down low to their big man Gabriel Mabor, who was having a strong start to the game. The duo of Mabor and Cameron Newman allowed Gaston to hold a 27-21 halftime lead.
Second half, it was a different story as Gaston Christian started to get everyone involved and completely dominate on both ends of the floor. Finishing strong at the rim but allowing their guards to create and knock down shots, they quickly increased their lead to double-digits and more, simply never looking back after halftime.
Gaston Christian was just too much for Cardinal Newman, as they were able to walk away with an impressive 84-63 victory.
