PLAYER: KHAIRIQ GROGINS

Class: 2019

HT: 6’2

High School: Hampton High School, Hampton VA

Personal: Khairiq was a slot receiver on the Hampton High School football team and is the likely candidate to become the team’s starting quarterback in 2016.

AAU Team: Boo Williams – Coach Rodney Berry

Coach Frank says: Khariq is a powerful, nimble footed athlete with surprising quickness and a great motor. A two sport star at Hampton High School, Khairiq is as likely to run over a defender in football as he is to crossover and explode by a defender in basketball; he offers that unique combination of power and quickness. A crafty playmaking guard Khairiq can bully his defender to get to the rim or use an impressive array of dribbling moves and quickness to breakdown a defender and drive to the basket. He is a heady ball handler and solid passer, plays at varying speeds and with great balance. Khairiq’s strength is evident in the lane where he sheds defenders and at the rim where he finishes seemingly undeterred by contact. He can pull up or use a quick step back dribble move which he does extremely well and hit the middle jumper. He defends the basketball extremely well, keeps a low and disciplined stance throughout change of direction, stays in the offensive player’s body and does not get beat. Khairiq is an energy giver and a tireless competitor. He’s the kind of player a coach would love to have as he exudes enthusiasm and really has fun competing and does so at a high level consistency.
