Over the past 3 months, Hayden Brown has jumped from being a 3 sport All State performer to being a recruited D1 basketball player. It all started with Byrnes High School’s run to win the 4A state championship in South Carolina.
Strapped firmly on Brown’s back, Byrnes defeated perennial state powers Spring Valley and then Irmo, both teams strapped with D1 talent, to take the title. It was Browns versatility and leadership that was the overwhelming deciding factor. If you talk with his high school coach, he raves about him. If you watch him celebrate after games, his entire team comes to celebrate with him.
In consecutive possessions, you can find brown bringing the ball up the court as the point guard then posting his man in the paint as the post. He is just as comfortable initiating the offense from the high post as he is from the top of the key. Standing at 6’5” and 225 pounds, the lengthy Brown is quite a unique talent.
This year, the 3.7 student led his team to a 25-3 record. He led his team in scoring at 12.5 per game and shot 57% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc. He also finished second on his team with 6 boards and 2.5 assists per game.
After you watch Brown play, it should come as a surprise of his overall athletic prowess. He is also an all-state swimmer and an all-state lacrosse performer. However, his heart lies with basketball and that really shined during this past year’s playoff run.
College coaches, there is so much unseen potential here. A 3.7 student opens doors, but the way he plays the game will open up many more. Coaches, line up on the baseline to see him at Spring Hoops Fest LIVE April 16-17.
