5’9 ’28 Za’Miya Bynum (Queens Grant)

It’s probably somewhat unfair to include Bynum, as she’s the oldest and most polished player in this group, but she still deserves attention for her incredibly dynamic game. Although it’s clear that she already possesses an extremely refined game with advanced IQ and physical tools, one could argue that she’s only going to continue trending upward over the coming years. Bynum is an incredible defender, rebounder, playmaker, and one of the most explosive end-to-end athletes you’ll find in the women’s game. However, her skill level also far exceeds that of her peers. While it might seem difficult to envision upside for a player already so dominant in all facets of the game, Bynum still has room left to grow. She clearly has the makings of a special talent.

5’10 ’29 Zoey Goodman (Grimsley)

Between our viewings during the summer and high school season, it doesn’t take long to recognize that Goodman has all the tools to be a noteworthy prospect. She already possesses amazing size, skill, and fluidity. Goodman simply moves differently from her peers. She shoots the ball at a high level from beyond the arc and actively takes advantage of open driving lanes whenever possible. Goodman sees the floor well as a passer and utilizes her length very effectively to cause problems for opponents. She also displays nice instincts as a defender and rebounder. As she continues to add strength, Goodman will become an even bigger issue for opponents.

6’0 ’29 Ava Powell (Hickory)

Certain players simply have a nose for the ball and a knack for making plays within the flow of the action, and that rings especially true with Powell. She’s a strong, mobile post player with excellent strength and overall instincts around the basket. Powell is a useful finisher who plays very well through contact. That being said, her ability to control the glass is a massive part of what makes her such a difference-maker. Powell gets her hands on seemingly every available rebound or loose ball, both in and out of her area. Her high motor, general physicality, and quick second/third jumpers allow her to reliably outwork opponents on both ends of the floor. Powell should only continue to progress over the coming years.

6’2 ’30 Jannah Newkirk (Wesleyan Christian)

Despite being the only non-high school player listed, Newkirk definitely has the tools to be a notable prospect. Similar to the entry above, her rebounding prowess is currently her biggest asset. However, Newkirk is truly just beginning to scratch the surface of her long-term potential. She already has the size, strength, and mobility to anchor the paint for stretches. Newkirk does a nice job of walling up and effectively blocking or altering shots without fouling. She’s still developing her overall skillset, but already knows how to impact the game as a young, low-maintenance cog. Based on her current trajectory, Newkirk has obvious appeal.
