Phenom Hoops was in Indiana,as the top players met in one spot. These are some of the standouts from IndyTop80
Kevin Easley
One of the many great things about the Top 80 events we do is it provides a platform for everyone to be seen. Of course you have the McDonald’s All American and Top 100 kids who attend, but you also have the kids that people haven’t heard of yet the ability to compete.
This year’s Indiana Top 80 was no different. We had the kids committed to Power 5 schools and ranked in the nation’s Top 100, but we also had players who were not – step up and, in some cases, outplay the others.
Competition brings out the best (or worst) in people. Here are some who stepped up to the challenge
6’6” 2019 Mason Gillis
New Castle HS (New Castle)
Gillis is undersized, but he has great length and “want to”. He is a skilled mis-match 4 man, who showed ability to make stand still 3s, attack from the high post, and even score on the block. Gillis is a lunch pale type on the boards as he keeps plays alive and corrals them with two hands. Gillis makes winning plays.
6’7” 2018 Kevin Easley
Lawrence North HS (Indianapolis)
There is no doubt Easley is skilled. He has a great frame, is very strong, and sees the floor very well. Easley is most adept when attacking the basket and setting up team mates. He has the look of a Draymond Green type of forward, as versatility and strength is his calling card. His diversity was on display throughout camp.
6’10” 2019 John Michael Mulloy
Carmel HS (Carmel)
Mulloy is long and active. He is a good athlete and carries a very unique skill set. Mulloy was able to push the break on defensive rebounds and got his team into sets. He shot the 3 ball and even created for himself off the bounce. There is a load of upside for the lefty.
6’5” 2018 Tony Hopkins
Thomas Carr Howe Community HS (Indianapolis)
Hopkins had an injury scare in the first game, but was able to bounce back and play as the day went on. Hopkins plays with a great pace, he has very long arms, and great court vision. As a point guard, he showed comfort on the ball and the ability to consistently make plays for himself and others.
6’7” 2019 Aaron Etherington
Hamilton Southeastern HS (Nobleville)
Etherington is a different type of talent. He is a thick bodied forward. He carries great skill with range and touch, and he bouncy and aggressive when he attacks the rim. Etherington was able to score at 3 levels and brought toughness to the game.
