In two weekends, Phenom Hoops will officially begin our annual Hoopstate Fall League. Previously, games were hosted at Cox Mill and JD Lewis Center, but Rise Indoor Sports will also be added to the mix this year. Between three separate venues, kids from several different areas will have the opportunity to compete against other notable programs as they prepare for the upcoming high school season. Leading up to the preseason contests, we will preview some of the teams registered to attend—looking at Greensboro Day School.

It’s no secret that the Bengals have been one of the winningest, most dominant programs in North Carolina over several decades. Coach Freddy Johnson is a legendary figure who continues to build quality teams and contend for titles year after year. Last season was the first time Greensboro Day lost double-digit games in over 20 years. They still won critical games and made a real title push during their playoff run, but ultimately fell short. However, it feels like a bounce-back season is on the horizon. Not only have they retained most of their core, but they’ve also grabbed headlines by adding a nationally recognized name (and several others). Add in their young up-and-comers, and this group will be highly entertaining to monitor.
