The first contest of Phenom Hoops’ City of Oaks Classic took place between two ultra-competitive squads in Holly Springs and Piedmont Classical. Holly Springs jumped out to a quick, early lead and looked ready to take control of the game, even without their senior leader and starting point guard Marcus Elliott. That was short-lived, as Piedmont Classical was able to completely flip the script, take over through their defense, and secure a 28-24 lead entering halftime.

The Bobcats were able to amp up the intensity and pressure to start the second half, extending their lead for the first few minutes. Holly Springs regained their footing and brought it back to a one-possession game heading into the fourth quarter. It was a definite battle for the starting minutes of the final period but ultimately turned towards Piedmont Classical’s favor, as they started to break away and secure a 63-53 victory over Holly Springs.
