This past weekend, Phenom Hoops traveled out to Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina, for our eighth annual Hoops and Dreams Showcase. The event returned to its original debut spot for a quality two-day stretch of basketball featuring many of the top local teams. Across the 14 games, there were several standouts, storylines, and meaningful takeaways that we will examine closer. Let’s continue by taking a closer look at everything Cam Fowler is doing as a leader for Northwood…

Although this roster lost several key pieces from last year’s squad, it still has more than enough talent to turn heads. Guys like Josiah Brown, Bakari Watkins, and several others play critical roles for this group. However, Fowler is their clear, undisputed focal point. He’s an all-around player who can impact the game in a variety of different ways. Fowler understands how to operate as an initiator and primary creator, displaying the vision and polish to consistently generate shots for himself and others. He mixes it up well as a scorer from all levels. Fowler displays a nice balance between taking what the defense gives him and taking what he wants—both yielding positive results. He’s a strong finisher who plays through contact and above the rim. Fowler knocks down jumpers at a consistent rate from midrange and beyond the arc, but is capable of making the extra pass when available. On the other end, he’s able to guard multiple positions throughout a lineup. At 6-foot-5 with length, strength, and athleticism, Fowler can defend smaller or bigger opponents quite well. He rebounds his position and knows how to effectively push the break in transition. It’s perplexing to try and understand his lack of recruitment at this stage, but Fowler should definitely be a priority for various programs.
