What to Watch at Phenom Team Camp

This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel down to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to host our annual June Team Camp. The event always features a slew of the most talented teams and individuals within the Carolinas, and this year’s will be no different. Leading up to the event, we will take a closer look at players and subplots to monitor. After years of storied success, Hargrave Military Academy is looking to reestablish its reputation as one of the country’s top programs. We caught up with Alan Petty for some insight on their roster. Let’s take a closer look….
There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding 2028 Isaac Smith over the recent months. The 6-foot-6 wing already holds a scholarship from Old Dominion, but could certainly warrant more offers throughout the travel ball season. Smith possesses high motor, exceptional length, and the versatility to defend all positions on the floor. His status as a piece for Team United EYBL brings national exposure and big-game reps to the Hargrave system.
Returning to steady the backcourt is 2026 Kendall Lanier, fresh off a breakout season that earned him VISAA Division II First-Team All-State honors. A cerebral 5’11 guard, Lanier is the engine behind Hargrave’s offense. He finished last season with 67 made threes, ranking 4th in VISAA Division II and 23rd in Virginia overall. His ability to control pace, hit timely shots, and lead vocally gives the Tigers a true floor general.
Joining them is junior combo guard Jalen Carter, an All-Conference VISAA selection who scores at all three levels. Carter brings toughness, pace, and the ability to make smart decisions in late-game moments, offering another proven guard to a loaded backcourt.
New faces add even more excitement. Caleb Rolle, a 6’5” wing from the Bahamas, joins the Tigers with international experience and upside. His length and natural athleticism make him a perfect fit in Hargrave’s up-tempo system. Also transferring in is Jamarian Chaney, a 6’7” forward from Magna Vista (VA), whose physicality and motor have drawn early attention.
With high-level returners, rising young talent, and size across all positions, Hargrave is poised to make serious noise this season after finishing in final four two of the last three seasons.
