6’4 Blake Smith (Salisbury)

While most people will know him as the younger brother of Myles, Smith will definitely blaze his own path this season. After being a standout this summer with Carolina Riptide, he has a ton of momentum heading into the high school year. Smith is a long, wiry, versatile wing who can impact all facets of the game. At 6-foot-4, he has the size, skill, and athleticism to cause matchup problems for opponents. Smith displays nice instincts defensively and is capable of toggling between multiple positions on that end of the floor. Add in his rebounding, initiation, and transition ability, and it’s easy to see him having a breakout season.

6’5 Nixon Wright (East Mecklenburg)
In a similar situation to the entry above, Wright will have the opportunity to be the primary option for a new-look team. During our viewings this summer, he stood out through his ability to score around the basket, compete on the glass, and outwork opponents defensively. Although Wright utilizes his length and strength to impose his will inside the paint, he’s capable of attacking off the bounce or knocking down open jumpers along the perimeter. He knows how to grab boards and effectively push the break in transition. Wright has clear upside remaining, but should definitely be a leader for the Eagles going forward.

6’2 Ty Lange (Cardinal Gibbons)

Arguably the most unassuming player listed, Lange is the type of guy every coach wants on their team. He’s a natural leader who sets the tone through his IQ, motor, and efficiency. Lange is a reliable creator, both for himself and others, with the ability to actively toggle between playing on and off the ball. He’s a terrific shooting threat from midrange and beyond the arc, and is comfortable operating in spot-up situations whenever needed. Lange is a quality passer who offers great balance between scoring and playmaking. Add in his pesky defense, and it’s easy to see how he elevates every team he’s on.
