You don’t always get a chance to see East Carolina in the news but with their latest two grabs and now three commitments on board for 2021, the Pirates coaching staff and fans should be excited about the future of the basketball program.

ECU hasn’t been a basketball factory over the past several years but it seems that head coach Joe Dooley has this program headed in the right direction quickly!

Just in their last recruiting class, they landed one of the top point guards in the country in Noah Farrakhan and a center in Derrick Quansah to man the paint.  They also were able to add intriguing walk-ons in Dylan Blake and Brenden Kelly.

They have continued that momentum into their 2021 recruiting class so far, first landing forward Tay Mosher who brings intrigue in being a 6’7 prospect that has the ability to knock down jumpers as well as rebound around the basket.

But their two latest commits should only continue to have fans excited as 6’7 Dondre Watson from Moravian Prep and 6’5 RJ Felton announced they will be part of the 2021 recruiting class.

Starting with Watson, he brings a lot of intrigue and energy to the floor.  He has a constant motor and is a versatile forward with the unique ability to play inside with his burst on both ends, scoring around the rim or blocking shots.  He also runs the floor incredibly well and brings a ton of athleticism to the court.  Watson can be an absolute monster on both ends and will only continue to develop his game more with the Pirates’ coaching staff.

Then you look at Felton, who fans will love.  We have always respected what this young man brings to the table because there aren’t many with his energy and work ethic on the court; he leaves everything he has out on the court.  He is a born scorer as a guard on multiple levels, he brings excitement with his athleticism, and he plays with something to prove every night.

The coaching staff has done a great job of noticing talent and developing relationships with these players.  Coach Dooley has this program headed in the right direction for sure and certainly could be one on the rise in a big way down the road.
