One of the premier guards in the state right now for the 2022 class is Elijah Jamison from Liberty Heights. Coming from Louisburg, where he showed it all and put up impressive numbers, Jamison took his talents to Liberty to show that he can in fact be the point guard that college coaches want leading their team.
He displayed that countless times, helping Liberty Heights into the national spotlight, carving up defenses, and displaying his talent in leading an offense. It is why his recruitment could continue to rise, even after grabbing two impressive offers lately.
We recently spoke with Jamison to catch up on the latest, including his thoughts on the latest offers and who else is making a strong push.
Phenom: How has everything been going with your recruitment?
Jamison: Basically, Wichita State is the most recent offer. UConn, Wake Forest, and South Florida have picked up… there has been a lot of interest.
Phenom: What has been the biggest difference in playing at Liberty Heights this past year?
Jamison: I feel like I can run a team more, take better shots, and play better defense. The competition has been better since playing at Liberty Heights, playing a national schedule. I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing there.
Phenom: How did it all go at Liberty Heights this year?
Jamison: It was great. I feel like it was the best decision I could have made, getting away from home. Just really been able to focus on basketball. Coach Mike has been there since Day 1 with me.
Phenom: East Carolina was a big offer for you. What did they have to say and what kind of relationship do you have with them?
Jamison: I had taken a visit there last year. When they offered me, it was a little surprising because they usually talk to me every day but he said he wanted to call me and then they offered me. The staff and I have a really good relationship; they have met my mom and my sisters, so that is really good.
Phenom: Wichita State was also a big offer. What did they have to say?
Jamison: They were telling me about the talent they were going to be losing and they needed a point guard, so they said I could come in and run the table as soon as I get there, which meant a lot. Also, they also had two other NC players.
Phenom: There have been talks about whether you would be in the 2021 or 2022 class. What’s been the latest with that?
Jamison: I don’t know if I’m going to go early, I’m still thinking about it. I’ve got until June, so I’m going to play some AAU tournaments and see how it goes before making my decision.
Phenom: You mentioned a few other schools that are showing interest like UConn, Wake Forest, USF. What have they been saying your way?
Jamison: UConn is just waiting to see what their roster is going to be looking like. USF, they have been recruiting for a while now. They all have been saying kind of the same thing.
Phenom: Any school stand out from that list so far?
Jamison: Definitely USF. The way they are recruiting me has impressed me. I talk to the coaches a lot. That stands out to me.
Phenom: What are you looking for overall in a school?
Jamison: I’m looking for a school that I can come in and play right away, family environment, and academics. Really a school that just feels like home.
