As we kick off the high school season, many are eager to see the new wave of talent in the freshman class here in North Carolina. Many new names will be emerging for fans to learn, but one in particular could be leading the charge early on as a future national prospect.
2029 6’9 Grant Duggins from Greensboro Day has been making himself well-known this summer, and his development as a young big can easily be seen. Playing under the legendary coach Freddy Johnson and his staff, it seems that the freshman is poised to be a big piece to this team’s success this season.
That was for sure seen this past weekend at the Phenom HS Jamboree, where our scout Jeff Bendel had this to say: “6’9 ‘29 Grant Duggins (Greensboro Day) creates so many matchup problems for opponents. Versatile forward with the touch, vision, ball skills, and shooting ability to operate as an inside-out threat. Fluid athlete. Very polished. Will only continue to progress.”
When you watch this young man’s game and how he operates as only a freshman, you have to be impressed overall with his understanding. Not only does he bring great size but he also understands how to use it. As a big player, he brings a lot of versatility, thanks to his smooth movement, excellent footwork, and high comfort level in various areas of the court. He displays great feel and vision, operates well in the post, is quick on the glass, and can pop out as a big to open up space and be a threat. Duggins has a strong IQ for the game that you simply don’t see often in a freshman, which is why so many programs will be looking his way early on to recruit him and make him a priority.
