Coach K’s special report. I had the opportunity last week to spend an evening at Riverside Baptist Academy. Overall this team is loaded. Talking with coach Travis Lyons, he feels decent and that they have one of the better preseason outlooks he has had in years. Let’s look at some of the finer details. Riverside enters this season injury-free.
Extremely talented, Riverside has five players over 6’4 that are extremely well-coached, a solid backcourt returning and two new transfers and two starters from last year that can play. They have a front line that’s 6’4, 6’5, and 6’7. With a lot of athleticism. They will be a formidable contender in the Conference. This team also has an abundance of quickness, and a plethora of guards. Lyons can probably go eight or nine deep comfortably. Let’s take a look at four of the studs in this lineup.
Walter Burks
6’1
Combo Guard
Class of 2020 Senior
Christopher Smith
6’7
Class 2020
Senior
Devon Savage
Small forward
6’4 Sophomore (2022)
Joshua Walker
6’8
Power Forward
2020(Senior)
James Pearce #10 Class of 2022 6’6 wing man. Netted a triple-double. Prat of this Two-man wrecking crew that put up 30pts, and combined for over 20 rebounds. One of the best frontcourts in the tournament.
Chancelor Morrow # 0 Class of 2022 6’5 swing man that can shoot it off the catch, off the dribble and put it on the floor and get to the basket. Long and athletic defender. This helps him play a high percentage of basketball.
