Clover High School: Open Gym Report
Phenom Hoops travelled to Clover, South Carolina to cover open gym for new head coach Darris Jackson, who is replacing Bailey Jackson. Coach Jackson stressed fundamentals to his new team, highlighting ball handling, shooting and playing off two feet. Now, let’s take a closer look at the players on the 2022-23 Clover High School roster.
6’3 2023 JJ Mata
I have a feeling JJ Mata will have a huge senior season for Clover High School. The long, athletic guard has the ability to play / guard multiple positions on the court. When you mix athleticism and skill set together, normally good things happen. JJ excels getting downhill and finishing at the rim, but he is more than capable of knocking down perimeter shots. College coaches should definitely have JJ Mata on their radar.
2023 Vince Alexander
Super explosive wing / forward. Has the ability to guard multiple positions on the court. Vince does a good job attacking downhill in transition and finishing at the rim. Also, he is capable shooter from the perimeter.
2023 Jake Baker
Strong, tough guard. Jake does all the little things on the court. He isn’t scared to dirty things up. Good shooter from the perimeter. Jake showcases a lot of leadership qualities throughout the course of game / practice.
2023 Sam Herrington
Long, athletic guard. Uses his length really well defensively. Good timing in the passing lanes and blocking shots. Excels getting downhill.
2024 Jaylon Hoover
Jaylon is a crafty / savvy playmaker. He has a quick first step to get past opponents. Jaylon has a good feel for the game and plays at his own pace. Jaylon does a good job finishing around the rim with either hand. Also, he has the ability to fill it up from the perimeter.
2024 Hunter DeCuir
Hunter is a tough, gritty player who makes a lot of winning basketball plays. He isn’t scared to mix things up defensively or on the glass. Always around the basketball. Hunter has the ability to really get it going from the perimeter as well. Smooth shooting stroke from the perimeter.
2024 Trenton Palumbo
Trenton has a high basketball IQ. Smart, savvy playmaker who is always willing to make the right basketball play. Two sport athletes. (Soccer)
2024 Karis Murphy
Karis has made tremendous strides on the court. He is playing with a lot more confidence. Long, athletic guard who uses his length really well defensively. Karis showed the ability to finish in transition as well as knock down shots from the perimeter.
2024 Harley Lail
Physical, big body post. Battles on the glass. Has good hands on drop off passes. Harley does a good job scoring with angles.
2024 Devin Julian
Devin has the ability to really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Smooth shot with deep range.
2025 Devin Agard
Even though Devin is one of the youngest players on the roster, he will have a major impact on the program over the next 3 years. Quick, shifty guard who has the ability to create plays for himself and others.
2025 Grayson Smith
6’5 forward. Still learning the game but definitely makes his presence known down low. Rebounds well for his position. Scores with angles in the post.
