WCBA 9th grade defeated Upward Stars PeeDee 55-51 in the Silver Division Championship 15u at The Queen City Showcase. WCBA was led by #35 Justin Montenegro a 5'9' Guard with 16 points, 4 assist, #80 Even Ashe a 6'1' forward had 10 points, 8 rebounds and #21 CJ Jordan a 6'1' Forward had 12 points, 10 rebounds. Upward Stars PeeDee was led by #33 Micah Nelson a 6'3' Forward with 8 points, 12 rebounds and #34 Richard Brooks a 6'3' Forward with 10 points, 11 rebounds.

The game started as a defensive struggle as both teams were locked in defensively. No offense could get generated due to unwavering pressure up top by each teams guards. WCBA was able to take a 7 point lead off 3 Upward turnovers on consecutive possessions. Upward couldn't buy a basket. WCBA gets whistled for fouls but Upward doesn't convert missing 14 FTs in 1st half. WCBA is able to score a few baskets and enters halftime with a 28-16 lead. Both teams best offense was actually offensive rebounding with putbacks.
2nd half starts with Upward scoring 8 unanswered points and cuts WCBA lead to 4 points. WCBA settles down and forces Upward to consecutive turnovers and pushes the lead back up to 10 points. Teams go back and forth exchanging buckets. Upward mounts a small run and trims lead to 3 points. Offense picks up for both teams. Point differential stays the same as the game is coming to the final minutes. The final minutes become a game of missed opportunities as both teams squandered their fair share of chances. With 39 seconds remaining and WCBA up by 2 Upward has the ball, they are milking the clock they attempt a shop with 17 seconds, shot is missed WCBA rebounds ball and outlets to a streaking guard for an easy 2 points and a 4 point lead. Upward inbounds ball rushes up the court and misses a long three, WCBA rebounds clock reads all zeroes GAME OVER. WCBA 9th Grade capture the Bronze 15u Championship.
