Looking at players around the state of North Carolina, a player that brings a lot of intrigue and potential is 2027 6’8 Noah Dobyns at Wesleyan Christian. He showed that in a big way recently at the NC Top 80, as the forward displayed fluidity, skill, scoring ability, and upside with his game.
Phenom Hoops has talked about Dobyns on several occasions, getting a chance to watch him flourish and see his development. Recently at the Seros Open, we had this to say:
“He suited up and played once again at the Seros Open, and again, one could not help but see the potential this young man has. When you talk about his game, his blend of size and fluidity has to immediately stand out in your eyes. Though he can continue to get stronger in areas, Dobyns’ ability to comfortably operate inside and out, run the floor, and even put the ball on the deck is intriguing to watch. He can score with touch and feel as a prospect with size, but also hurt you in stretching the floor. Dobyns has tremendous mobility in running the floor, beating defenders ,and finishing at the rim or attacking off the bounce, but also is a capable shot-maker from outside, showing that he can mix it up on opponents.”
But now is the time for Dobyns to showcase it all… and you can see that he has a lot to offer on the court. Again, we are talking about a 6’8 prospect that moves and runs the floor extremely well, can get to the rim in transition as well as off the bounce and operate down in the post, is comfortable from the perimeter with his face-up game, and can be a versatile piece both offensively and defensively. Showcasing his impact at the NC Top 80 where he was one of the top scorers at the event, Dobyns flourished with his size and mobility. And as he gets stronger down the road, he is one that can offer a lot on the court and is a prospect that college coaches should keep an eye on even more this season.
NC Top 80 Evaluation:
Next, Noah Dobyns is a 6-foot-8 prospect in the Class of 2027. Although he possesses as much long-term appeal as anyone in his class, it was easy to be impressed with his contributions at camp. Dobyns is a long, wiry athlete with impressive fluidity and floor-spacing ability for his size/position. He’s an explosive finisher and lethal perimeter shooter who doesn’t require a ton of touches to make an impact. Dobyns utilizes his length well to be disruptive defensively, both in the passing lanes and as a shot-altering presence. Next in his development process is working on his ability to handle the ball, as it would make him an even bigger matchup problem for opponents. Coach Hunter on Dobyns: “Noah is a skilled forward. He shoots and passes the ball really well. He has good footwork and is very gifted offensively. I would love to see Noah be more physical as a finisher, rebounder, and defender in the post.” Dobyns continues to turn heads with his play and overall trajectory, and should have a big year for Wesleyan Christian.
