Now that we’ve reached the point in the high school season when things begin to shift. Despite all the preseason competition, holiday showcases, and subplots throughout, this time is arguably as exciting as any period in the year. Each game has playoff implications. All kinks should be figured out and teams should be hitting their stride. However, this is also the stretch when young prospects really begin to emerge and separate themselves from their peers. Although the state is filled with intriguing young talent in every area, it’s basically impossible to ignore the remarkable production from Rowen Fitzgibbons as a focal point for Mount Airy. Let’s take a closer look…

Right now, the Granite Bears are 9-6 and about to enter the last stretch of their schedule behind a quality collection of upperclassmen. However, Fitzgibbons has been undeniably impressive as the lone freshman on the roster. In nine games, he’s averaging 20.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 1.6 APG. Although his efficiency should improve over time, the raw scoring production implies that Fitzgibbons is improving at a rapid rate.

He’s a wiry, well-rounded guard who displays useful feel, scoring polish, and ability with the ball in his hands. Fitzgibbons is a growing playmaker who has the tools to create for himself and others. He plays with consistent effort on both ends of the floor and is capable of operating in several different roles. Fitzgibbons isn’t afraid to mix it up as a rebounder, and positions himself well to make plays defensively. He’s also just truly beginning to scratch the surface of his physical development, as he should only continue to get taller and add strength over the foreseeable future. That being said, Fitzgibbons will likely see massive long-term dividends from the reps, improved IQ, and general productivity. He will certainly be a prospect to monitor going forward.
