This past weekend, Phenom Hoops traveled out to the Henrico Sports and Events Center for our annual Virginia Tip-Off. Between new faces and blossoming young prospects, the event featured a variety of intriguing storylines. Despite narrowly falling short during their title run, the 2029 Virginia Havoc group consistently turned heads behind their complementary duo of Miles Hudson and Alex Worsham. Let’s take a closer look at each…

Although it’s always inconclusive how much young players will physically grow, there’s already a lot to like with Hudson. He’s long, athletic, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Hudson possesses a high motor and understanding of how to wreak havoc on both ends of the floor. He controls the glass as a rebounder, blocks shots at a consistent rate, and outworks others for loose balls/extra possessions. Hudson finishes at a high rate around the basket and appears comfortable attacking off the bounce or moving without the ball. His quick first and second jumps allow him to secure several rebounds on the same possession if necessary. Hudson also makes solid passes from the post and runs the floor effectively in transition. He will definitely be a player to follow, especially if he continues to physically develop.

Meanwhile, Worsham stood out through his IQ and savvy from the point guard position. He’s small but plays with poise and confidence. Worsham is quick enough to consistently beat opponents off the dribble and touch the paint, where he’s able to score or locate the open man. He’s a crafty, slippery ball-handler who can reliably generate clean looks and control the offense like a coach on the floor. Worsham understands where everyone is supposed to be and how to properly set them up for success. He’s also a pesky defender with great instincts for intercepting passing lanes and forcing turnovers. Worsham visibly knows how to run a team and set the tone as a leader, and will be a prospect to monitor going forward.
