It seems that North Carolina is looking to make some waves early on in its backyard with some of the premier talents from the area. We recently wrote about 2027 LJ Smith being in touch with UNC and making a recent visit to Chapel Hill. They also have had their eyes on 2027 King Gibson who is now at Montverde.  And let’s not forget that there have been reports of the Tar Heels checking in on 2027 Jordan Page.

However, the first offer here in the state of North Carolina for 2027 went out this past weekend to 2027 6’9 CJ Rosser from Northern Nash, who is regarded as one of the top prospects in the country and is oozing with upside in his game.

Phenom Hoops spoke about Rosser back in the start of 2024, as we took in a Northern Nash to check out then freshman sensation. At that game, we had this to say about Rosser’s game who was just starting his story:

“Rosser is one that certainly grabs your attention with his size at 6’8, his ability to play along the perimeter, and the upside in what he could ultimately be. This young man shows promise in his ability to be used inside and out, good handles, can knock down shots from outside, and you can see the more he gets stronger and develops his feel, there is a lot to like.”

From then on, he has only continued to develop and add more tools into his game, as we recently had this to say:

“Coming in as a Top 5 talent in the country by nearly all outlets, Rosser was the go-to option in this game as he finished with an impressive 27 points for Northern Nash. From when we first viewed him as a freshman at Nash to where he is today, one can see that Rosser has improved drastically and truly understands what he is capable of bringing to the table. Early on, he showed his improvement from behind the arc hitting multiple threes at 6’9. He has really become a confident presence in stretching the floor and knocking down shots from behind the arc consistently. But he continued to excel in using his fluidity, length, athleticism, and overall skillset to get up and down the court, attack the basket and finish, and have a strong presence on either end of the court. Again though, you can see his improvement in his game but what continues to make him so scary is he may just be scratching the surface of what he could be as he continues to develop and get stronger.”

When you talk about this young man’s game, it is the classic question of “what could he ultimately become'” People like to throw out comparisons of Keven Durant or Brandon Ingram due to his length and feel, but I don’t think it is always fair to throw out those types of names for a young sophomore. But the talent, skillset, and potential are all there for Rosser. Viewing him over the years, he looks more assertive, has gotten bigger and stronger, looks more comfortable in being a perimeter factor, and has clearly shown to be a matchup nightmare. Yet again, the story book has yet to reach its ending and Rosser has a chance to be special. Which is why it is no surprise that North Carolina and so many other big-time programs will be heavily involved throughout his recruitment.
