We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Michael Marcus of Covenant Day School.

We’ve seen Marcus in numerous different settings, including at our most recent All-American Camp, where we stated, “Finishing up, we look at a player that is absolutely brimming with long-term potential, Michael Marcus Jr. He’s a big, strong, physical post prospect with great hands, nice touch, and a very useful motor on both sides of the ball. Marcus rebounds the ball really well, securing a ton of second-chance opportunities and finishing around the basket. Though his offensive arsenal is just beginning to blossom, Marcus showed a strong comfort level operating around the basket or as a spot-up threat along the perimeter. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off-hand, as it would make him an even more polished scorer from the low block. Coach Lynch on Marcus: “Michael is an excellent rebounder that knows how to effectively compete on both ends of the floor. He has soft hands but needs to improve his footwork. Michael is quick off the floor and puts a lot of pressure on his assignment. He brought a positive attitude and strong motor to our team.” Marcus highlighted a ton of appeal during camp and has all the tools to become a terrific high school prospect.”
Since then, Marcus has only continued to blossom into an enticing two-way interior prospect with his combination of size, strength, and overall instincts. He displays a quality feel for the game, especially as a finisher, rebounder, and shot-altering presence. Marcus highlights soft touch around the rim, but can also step out and knock down the occasional jumper with consistency. He runs the floor effectively and utilizes his body quite well to absorb contact inside the paint on either end of the floor. Marcus recently put forth an exceptional showing as a representative for North Carolina in the annual US Basketball Games. There is already so much to like with Marcus as a next-level prospect, which is only further evidenced by his production with TSF over the summer. Kudos for Western Carolina for getting involved early, as Marcus could have a ton of schools in pursuit over the coming years.
