Coming out of high school, 6’1 Kedrick Flomo was one of the better point guards in the North Carolina 2014 class. Originally, Kedrick had signed with Appalachian State when he was a senior at North Forsyth, he asked for his release after a coaching change. He then signed with Murray State and played behind All Conference and current NBA player Cameron Payne.
Kedrick’s first year in college was a learning experience. He got an opportunity to play with current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cameron Payne. Like it is with so many young freshman players, he knew his role and relished the opportunity to learn and improve on his game. He got a chance to play against a future NBA player everyday in practice, which would only make him a better player.
However, his sophomore season, things turned for the worst. Weeks leading up to the start of the season, Kedrick started feeling tired, winded and weak. He then had further medical evaluations and found out he had to have an aorta valve replacement. He underwent emergency heart surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee where he was expected to make a full recovery, however he would have to take a medical redshirt his sophomore year.
Since then, Kedrick stated he has been cleared by his surgeon at Vanderbilt University, but has not been cleared by Murray State University. For Kedrick Flomo, he wants to further his dream of playing college basketball and asked for a release, which was granted. Knowing the skepticism and challenge ahead, Kedrick is determined to make it back on the hardwood.
