Palmetto Classic

Village Christian vs AC Flora

Day 2 at the Palmetto Classic is here and with it we have 6 more games on tap. Game 5 puts Village Christian vs AC Flora. Village got us started off with a big win over host Ben Lippen yesterday and looks to be one of the teams to beat here at this event. AC Flora, on the other hand, took a loss last night in one of the 2 showcase games in what was a physical and taxing game. Would they have enough in the tank to come back on day 2 and get the win, or would Village take another one with ease on their way to the title game' Either way, we were about to find out.

While there was a ton of size to be had in this one, it would be the guards that would lead the charge early. Village would ride the efforts of Ahmod Baker and Travion McCrae to jump out to an 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. AC Flora would storm back in the 2nd though and surge to a 6 point advantage late in the half and would take a lead into the break (34-29).

The 3rd quarter would belong to Village as they would fight back to take a small lead to start the 4th. The 2 teams would go back and forth down to the wire but in the end it would be Village that would pull out the win to the final of 64-61.

Players of note:

Village:

Travion McCrae, 6’1 2019 G – Lead guard had the defense on roller skates in this one as he showed that they had no answer for him early and often. Keeps the ball on a string and can hit from every level. (24p/6r/3a)

Derrick Quansah, 6’11 2019 F – Big put together another good effort here on day 2. Kid ha length for days and has the frame made to put weight/muscle on. The stronger he gets, the higher his stock rises as a prospect. (15p/13r/4 blocks)

AC Flora:

DJ Sinkler, 6’3 2019 G – Slender scorer got after it in this one. Scores from every level of the offense and slides easily through traffic. Kid gives good effort on the defensive end as well. (16p)

RJ Mobley, 6’4 2019 G – If it wasn’t DJ making big shots and getting timely stops it was RJ. The 2 players are interchangeable parts for this AC Flora team as they bring a lot of the same skills to the floor. (8p/4r/1a)
