South Carolina is shaping up early as a state to watch in the Class of 2028, as plenty of players have been making a name for themselves early on.  Players like Antoine Caughman and CJ Moore are two many have heard, but RJ Davis should find his name right there with them.  Davis is one that we have said has a chance to compete for the No. 1 spot in the state of South Carolina, as he has continued to develop and add more to his game.  We recently wrote about Davis not long ago, as Patrick O’Brien had this to say:

“Davis is another player that I believe will see his name near the top and as a contender at the No. 1 spot early on. Early on, there were those flashes that you saw in his game that grabbed your attention but over the last few months, I’ve seen him starting to put it all together. The 6’5 wiry prospect has incredible bounce and athleticism, something he uses well to his advantage. Davis gets out in transition and finishes well at the rim, consistently attacking downhill while also knocking down shots from outside. He does a great job in staying in attack mode but flourishes in several other areas on the court, and gives you flashes of his defensive impact with his athleticism and size as well. I believe he is one who could get stronger and even better in the coming years.”

When watching him, Davis proved to me that he is working and taking the next steps in his game, along with plenty of potential left in the tank.  With his length and athleticism, he flourishes well out in transition and finishing at the rim, but he can also be a multi-level scorer on the court.  It is why schools are already looking his way, as he announced that he had earned his first two offers from Wake Forest and California.

We caught up with Davis to discuss some of the latest developments and his current focus. See what he had to say.

Phenom 1-on-1:

Phenom: How has this offseason been for you? What has been your focus?

Davis: It has been going great, just stacking days and my main focus has just been to get better and get a consistent jumper.

Phenom: Has that been your main focus with your game?

Davis: Yes, my jump shot and also my ball handling.

Phenom: What is your mindset heading into the season and helping lead the charge?

Davis: My mindset heading into the season is to lead my team and try to win another state championship. I’m hoping to prove that IM the best in 2028.
