The Class of 2028 continues to showcase rising talent across the country, and 6’2 guard Jaron Couture of Veterans Memorial (TX) is quickly making his name known. After a season highlighted by steady development, a growing offensive skill set, and the milestone of surpassing 1,000 career points as a sophomore, Couture recently reached another major achievement—earning his first Division I offer from McNeese State. With confidence building and momentum on his side, the young prospect is proving that this moment could be just the beginning of a much larger rise on the recruiting scene.
Check out what he had to say in talking with Phenom Hoops recently.
Season Breakdown and Development This Season:
“We came off a rough start with our new team, but I feel every month we have increased our level of play. But we definitely aren’t at full potential. I think I’ve developed well this season with my mid-range game. I love getting to the middle for a quick pull-up and definitely my intensity on the court, playing with a winning mentality.”
This season, Couture also reached an impressive milestone early on, surpassing the 1,000-point mark as a sophomore.
“Definitely a memorable moment for me,” he said. “Before I entered high school, it wasn’t in my thoughts but after my freshman year, I realized it was definitely possible to hit it as a sophomore, and I was able to meet that goal.”
Receiving First D1 Offer:
It was certainly a big moment for Couture, receiving his first D1 offer from McNeese State, an offer he won’t forget. “Definitely a moment I won’t take for granted. As soon as I got the call from my AAU coach, I was crying a lot because playing basketball at a D1 program has always been a goal of mine.”
This may be just the start for this sophomore who is on the rise. He will be looking to wrap up the high school season and will be suiting up for Rashard Lewis Academy this summer. Couture is excited about the opportunity to show more of his game with his program.
“I’m very excited coming into this program,” he replied. “I feel it is a well-organized program and the team/coach I have all have good chemistry together, so I feel it should be a great year.”
