Player: Yohane Kabongo
Class: 2027
Height: 6’9
School: DME Academy
Tuning in recently at the Grind Session, DME Academy was a team of interest to check out; a team with a few familiar faces and a few new ones to learn. A roster with talent, led by star prospect Ryan Hampton, DME Academy brings a roster that should garner the attention of college coaches at multiple levels.
A player of interest, though, that seems to be going a bit under the radar is 2027 6’9 Yohane Kabongo, a big man who is worth looking at more and could be on the uptick for the Class of 2027. When speaking with Pete Munch, Kabongo is a highly intriguing prospect who is new to the States. Right now, he only holds offers from FAU and Duquesne, but it seems that schools are starting to pick up interest with his play to start the season, including Oregon being the latest school to reach out, as well as others like Texas A&M showing interest.

When Phenom Hoops watched him recently, we were very impressed with what we saw in his effort, motor, athleticism, and production. Though there is still development with his overall game, the upside can be seen there with Kabongo. He is a strong finisher at the rim, quick bounce, and great timing, plays with a strong motor on both sides of the floor, and does a great job of running end to end. Kabongo finishes emphatically at the rim, showing a quick burst, as well as touch/activity around the basket. He adds those same dimensions on the defensive end, showing burst and timing in blocking shots. Again, though, he is still part of the Class of 2027 and has room for growth. But you can see that he is a talent that college coaches should be looking at.
