Up in Ohio, Phenom Hoops was able to talk to a rising talent in the class of 2027, and should certainly be a prospect college coaches will be checking out and offering down the road. The 6’2 guard from Lima Senior HS, Shawn Foster has seen his recruitment get off to a great start with multiple offers already. The latest offer came after his visit to Butler, while several other high-major programs are expressing interest already. We recently spoke with Foster to learn more about his game, his summer and upcoming season, his game, and the latest in his recruitment.
Phenom: How was this summer for you overall and your game? What were you hoping to show more about your game and development?
Foster: The summer went really well, and I performed well over the summer, but I was hoping to show that I can do more than just shoot the ball. I wanted to show that I can do everything, and I have an all-around game on both ends of the court. I developed my game by just staying in the gym and lifting while working out at least 2-3 times a day.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game?
Foster: I feel like I’m a three-level scorer that can also play defense.
Phenom: Do you like to model your game after anyone?
Foster: I don’t really model my game after anybody, just play my game.
Phenom: What is your excitement about this upcoming high school season? What are you hoping to accomplish?
Foster: I’m excited to play with all the guys, especially our new transfer Willie Foster and it has been exciting to have Amari Addy and Jekel Cotton back from injury. I think we can accomplish a state championship or at least get there. For myself, my goals are just to get better and stronger, get first team All D2 Ohio, first-team TCAL Conference, and POY, and be talked about for Ohio Mr. Basketball.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on the early offers? What are your thoughts on the latest?
Foster: I think all my offers are good. I’m very blessed and thankful to have these offers and have these coaches believe in me. Bulter is a very good school, they are high-major. I went on a visit (Friday August 2nd) and Coach Matta is a really good coach. He has coached a lot of good players and he was really good to me. I liked my visit there.
Phenom: Any other schools you would like to visit?
Foster: I plan on going to Ohio State and Michigan State.
Phenom: What other schools have been showing interest?
Foster: Other schools like Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, South Carolina, Iowa State, Georgetown, and Marquette have shown interest.
