Being on deck in Rock Hill for the USA Club Championships, Phenom Hoops had a great opportunity to learn several new names that are or will be national names down the road. 2027 6’10 Kamsi Awaka caught plenty of eyes his way at the event, as he certainly will be a name many programs will be targeting down the road.

Awaka has such a unique blend of size, strength, and physicality at a young age, along with a blossoming feel for the game down in the paint.  He does a nice job in being a force and looking to body up the opponent down in the post, scoring well through contact or getting to the line, helping attack the boards to create second-chance opportunities, and can have a huge impact on the boards overall.  That doesn’t mention his ability to control and man the paint, using his long wingspan and timing to alter shots or make it difficult for opponents to attack the lane.

Right now, Awaka has been earning some early offers already from Fordham, High Point, Iona, and Rhode Island, but we would have to think that this is just the start for this young man.  He should be a hot target for many schools coming up and that list will quickly grow in the coming years.

What Was Said:

“It wasn’t hard to miss Awaka on the court, as the 6’10 big man was extremely physical and made his presence felt in the paint. Awaka is one that really controls the paint defensively, altering and blocking shots, being disruptive and a force on the boards, and can be a bully down in the paint offensively. He embraces contact down in the block, finishes and moves opponents offensively, and has good mobility in his game. Overall, Awaka was one of the biggest forces in the Class of 2027 on display.”
