Phenom Hoops continues its coverage back in July from the US Open Championships. This event was loaded with talent of all ages and had hundreds of college coaches surrounding the baselines to check out the talent. We were eager to see so many names on display at the event, which included one prospect that we believe has the talent and potential to play ultimately at the highest level.

2026 6’7 Anthony Thompson from Western Reserve Academy was a prospect we were eager to see and learn more about. There was a lot of hype coming in about his game and what he provides, and from what we saw he will certainly be on so many radars from college to even further earlier on. Thompson quickly grabs your attention with his frame, size, and length; and when you add to his feel and shot-making ability, he offers a lot on the court and has the game that will allow him to flourish on so many levels.

First, his ability to stretch the court and knock down shots with a smooth, confident release is impressive. He can pick and pop out, knock down shots from the corner with confidence, score off the bounce with his jumper, and has length to rise over defenders with ease comfortably is impressive. He is incredibly efficient from the floor and instantly creates a matchup problem, and you have to love how he plays under control and at his tempo.  His ability to knock down shots is impressive and certainly should have the attention of many scouts, but that isn’t fully his game as he understands how to operate in what is given to him. He has handles to create, can body up smaller defenders, scores well over opponents in the paint with his 7’2 wingspan, and his ability to be so fluid in how he attacks is quite impressive.

Right now, he holds offers from all over the country and is regarded as a Top-25 prospect. He holds offers from schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Alabama, Iowa, Auburn, Clemson, Penn State, Marquette, Louisville, Wake Forest, Purdue, and so many others. But it was clear in watching him on the court, that may be the start of his journey as he checks off a lot of boxes that will have him on NBA radars.
