Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Michael Marcus
Class: 2024
Committed to: Appalachian State

What He Brings:

How much has this young man grown with his game, when we first watched him years ago as a young prospect that was learning the game, he now has announced that he would be heading to Boone and suit up for Appalachian State. Marcus is a forward who brings a good frame and a prospect that should only continue to add more to his game at the next level. He can be a strong presence around the basket, be active and strong on the boards, and he continues to show and add more to his game with his ability to comfortably step out as well. Marcus should fit in quite nicely with this program and should be a great piece down the road.

What Has Been Said:

He’s a big, strong-bodied post prospect who consistently impacts the game within the flow of the action. Marcus is a great two-way rebounder with touch, feel, and shot-altering instincts. He truly excels at doing the little things. Marcus also runs the floor well in transition. Next in his development process is working on getting quicker, as it would make him a more reliable defender when recovering or switching on screens. Coach Collins on Marcus: “Michael has a lot of ability. I would like to see him be way more aggressive, given his size and tools. He is a force when he wants to be. When I say he’s solid, I mean he is solid. Michael plays with a purpose. I loved his drive and hustle.” Marcus showcased a great overall presence at camp, and should remain a difference-maker for Carmel Christian over these next two seasons.”

“From when we first watched him as a young player to where he is today, it is almost a night and day difference.  Marcus’ game has continued to make progress, along with his understanding and his physicality. You can see he is understanding more his ability to be more assertive and aggressive in the paint, adding more levels to his game, and being stronger in the paint and on the boards.”

“There were many standouts for the balanced Cougars in this contest, but Marcus’ steady, low-maintenance identity allowed him to regularly make plays within the flow of the action. He’s big, strong, and utilizes his body well on both ends of the floor. Marcus carves out space well, finishes around the basket, and secures rebounds at a quality rate. He protects the paint effectively and runs the floor properly in transition.”
