Each and every time Phenom Hoop Report gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Tyler Rice
Class: 2021
Committed to: William & Mary
What the Player Said:
PHR: What were some of your deciding factors for you and what made William & Mary the place for you in the end'
Rice: It was the family-like vide that they gave off since day one. They are definitely a great academic school which is important to my family and I. They prioritized me; I think I was the only point guard they offered in the class for like a month or two and they really put a lot of effort into trying to get me. I went on two visits there and I loved the campus and environment.
PHR: What stood out when you made those visits'
Rice: I could definitely see myself being a student on campus. New renovations are being done to the facility and I just thought it would be a perfect place to accomplish many great things with the team as well as write my own story.
PHR: What did the staff have to say when you told them'
Rice: The staff was very excited, they were screaming and shouting because they had been focused on getting me for a while. In all, they made me feel like it was definitely the right decision for me.
What Was Said by Phenom Hoops:
“He’s a point guard prospect with an excellent IQ and fundamental approach to the game. Offensively, Rice is a steady, reliable presence that initiates sets, attacks defenders off the dribble, and creates scoring opportunities for his teammates. He scores efficiently from all three levels and displays a strong balance between scoring and creating for others. He’s deceptively sharp on defense and forced a plethora of turnovers during his time at camp. Coach Richards on Rice: “Tyler is very explosive and attacks the rim well. He plays with a very high motor and rebounded the ball well on both ends of the floor as a result. Tyler shoots the ball very well from midrange and beyond the arc. He possesses a great first step and court vision.” – Virginia Top 80 evaluation
“Always makes the right play. Has range on his jump shot. High IQ. Good handle, gets downhill. Makes pass as pitch ahead or in a phone booth.” – SC Top 80 in 2018
“In terms of an overall feel for the game, Rice is special; his vision and ability to quickly read the floor is tremendous. He shoots the ball well from all three levels and has already solidified himself as a quality offensive prospect. Rice will have to prove himself defensively over these next few months, but possesses all the necessary abilities to do so.” – HS Jam Fest in 2018
