Ardrey Kell is coming off a terrific season last year but they will be looking a little different this year. But make no mistake about it, they look early on as a team that could make some noise in the state of North Carolina.
With a few new names on board, along with rising talents that are looking to take the next step, there sits 2021 Peyton Gerald, a veteran leader and an anchor that could be in for a breakout type season.
Gerald is a 6’8 prospect that simply plays his role, as he is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 7.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. He was a great presence down low and has a great understanding of how he can make an impact on the floor with his ability, without needing the spotlight.
But now, as a senior, Gerald is looking ready to show even more about his game, as he has worked hard in pushing his game even further.
“I’ve developed a lot I would say,” Gerald told Phenom Hoops. “I’ve gotten stronger, quicker, and have improved in all areas of my game. But my turning point in my mindset was when I figured out my role as a basketball player. I’m also motivated by our loss to a good Northwest team that left a bitter taste in my mouth, so now as a team, we want to take the next step.”
This summer, he really showed more about his game, continuing to have good footwork, touch around the rim, but also running the floor, rim-protecting, and finishing above the rim.
It is why he has already earned an offer from Fort Valley State but several other schools are starting to enter the picture. Schools like Mars Hill, Lincoln Memorial, Converse, Lander, UNC-Pembroke, Coker, Limestone, Wingate, Lees McCrae, and Montevallo have all been expressing interest as well.
“They all like my versatility when I’m on the floor, being able to create off the dribble and my ability to post up. They also like my ability to guard multiple positions and my motor.”
Gerald has certainly earned those interests and they could quickly turn into offers. With what we have seen from this summer, he has certainly elevated his game and could quickly be one of those breakout candidates.
