Sterling White 5'11 155 2021 Great Bridge High School Chesapeake VA

Sterling is fun to watch as he skillfully and intelligently navigates defenses in the mid range area using off ball movement and an array of dribble moves to become an effective scorer in all areas and a high percentage shooter inside 20 feet. He does an excellent job creating his own shot and winning isolations using quick crossovers, hard jab step pull ups and step back dribble moves to create separation and has a quick release off the dribble. His mechanics are textbook and his shot consistency off the dribble is impressive, also shoots the floater and has very good touch around the rim. He is also a threat beyond the arc but more so coming off screens and in catch and shoot scenarios than off the dribble from deep. Sterling has a good first step, not explosive but effective as his skill level, footwork, and ability to change speeds helps him mitigate a lack of explosiveness and allows him to still play quick, beat most defenders and have success in isolation situations. Sterling has a solid handle and uses rocker steps, hesitations and side-steps effectively as he creates on the drive. Has nice stop and start ability and the athleticism and balance to burst into creases and get to the rim or attack space. Sterling finds a nice mix as both a passer and scorer as he negotiates the mid range and demonstrates very good vision and the ability to get the ball to his teammates creating scoring opportunities for them as well. Sterling displays very good ball skills and sound execution of various moves allowing him to be a productive player. He is athletic and has a high IQ and once his body fills out will put the whole package together creating a high volume scorer and prolific playmaker. Defensively Sterling shows great instincts in passing lanes and contains the dribble nicely, brings great energy on both ends of the floor. He doesn't mind dropping down inside a battling for rebounds and has had several games with 6 to 9 rebounds which is impressive for a guard. Sterling has also produced several games with 15-18 points and is averaging double figure scoring which creates so much excitement around his overall upside as his body continues to mature physically. He is a gym rat with tremendous work ethic, the son of a successful AAU coach and a high academic student/athlete holding a 3.8GPA which only adds to the excitement surrounding this talented sophomore.
