Juwaun Williams 6'0 160 2021 Armstrong High School, Richmond VA
Only 6'0 but Juwaun plays much taller as he combines elite athleticism, great bounce with explosive elevation and plays with great energy attacking the basket fearlessly and confidently. He provides a lot of versatility as he handles the ball fairly well and can create in space and get to the rim and is productive in his slashing, basket attacking style. Juwaun employs a quick and decisive first step and great body control as he negotiates his way through traffic able to seemingly bounce off defenders, withstand contact and still end up at the rim finishing at a high rate. He is explosive and elevates off the floor quickly and effortlessly attacking the basket with length and authority. He moves off the ball well and on the catch is so quick to rip and explode by his man and get to the rim beating help defenders or contorting his body so as to slither through defenses in an elusive manner. Juwaun is at his best attacking off the dribble but shows the ability to hit the standstill three pointer at a respectable rate. Defensively he adds value as not only a good on ball defender but an active, high motor defender who causes havoc with his anticipation and quickness in passing lanes. Also a cornerback on the Armstrong High School football team, Jawaun uses those anticipation skills well on the basketball court as a threat to pick off long passes or cross court passes. His length and upper body strength allows him to drop down and rebound the basketball and he stays engaged defensively challenging shots all over the floor and finishing the defense. Wrapping up his sophomore season, Juwaun averaged over 14 ppg, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per contest and made great strides as his minutes piled up. I saw Juwaun back in early December and again just over a month later and his growth as a player and the confidence attacking the basket was really impressive. He has become a more assertive finisher and he's going to be a handful for defenders over the next two seasons. He can be a prolific high school scorer as he develops his middle game but already he's one of the 804's best scorers after an impressive sophomore campaign. Jawaun is a gifted athlete with a lot of basketball savvy and talent. He should be a breakout player next season, one worthy of attention from D2 coaches!
