Each year, we see several high-level players who make big moves (transfer, reclassification, etc.) that usually send shockwaves throughout the landscape. More often than not, these moves are typically from public school prospects in search of something new or more competitive in the private school sector. Although there were whispers and murmurings surrounding him since the high school season ended, Roman Solheim just announced his decision to transfer to Caldwell Academy. Immediately becoming arguably their top player on the roster, this is a massive addition for Coach Muirhead and the Eagles’ new staff. Let’s take a closer look at what he brings to the table…
Already well-known as a versatile, Swiss Army knife who can play multiple positions, Solheim’s impact will be felt in all facets of the game. He’s a fluid athlete with great size, length, and a well-rounded skillset. Solheim is capable of initiating the offense, creating for himself and others, and applying scoring pressure in a multitude of ways. Solheim is a strong finisher who can play through contact or above the rim. He shoots the ball effectively from the perimeter and attacks well to apply pressure as a threat off the bounce. Solheim is a useful cutter and spot-up threat who knows how to consistently find opportunities with or without the ball in his hands. He’s also a terrific rebounder whose nonstop effort and strong nose for the ball makes him a real problem for opponents on the glass.
On the other end, Solheim is a switchable defender who can guard multiple positions due to his size, motor, and athleticism. He displays the feel, instincts, and physicality to reliably defend up and down a lineup. Solheim is generally too mobile for bigger interior pieces and too physical for smaller guards, allowing him to alter his approach based on team needs. He blocks shots and anticipates very well to force turnovers defensively. What does this move ultimately mean for Caldwell Academy? They’ll add a no-brainer Division I prospect whose flexible, adaptable game and effortless production should mesh extremely well with the pieces on the roster. However, don’t be surprised when Solheim emerges as a leader and focal point for this group.
